Africa’s tallest Christmas tree in Hartbeespoort

Africa’s tallest Christmas tree in Hartbeespoort

On Friday, December 8, 2023, a dazzling spectacle illuminated the night sky as the tallest Christmas tree in Africa was unveiled at the GST Head Office in Bokfontein in Hartbeespoort.
“Standing tall at a staggering height of over 38 meters, from the base up to the majestic 3-meter-high star atop, this monumental tree – the GST Beacon of Hope – is the largest ever constructed in Africa,” says Walter Gähler of GST. “What began as a bold project to construct the largest Christmas tree in South Africa transcended all expectations, emerging as an awe-inspiring symbol of hope not just for the community but for the entire country and continent.”
What’s more astonishing is the meticulous decoration. The Christmas tree boasts over 5 000m of lights, enough to light up an entire Parkrun route with some lights to spare.
“The brainchild of GST, which serves the mining industry, the Beacon of Hope isn’t just a testament to engineering prowess and celebration of the festive season, but also a testament to the spirit that unites us all.
The tree is located on the R512, close to the N4 on the way from Hartbeespoort to Brits.
