Miss Teenager South Africa finalist, Tersia Ramakutoane (17) from Brits, got her community together to do a clean-up for Mandela Day.
Tersia rallied residents of Elandsrand, the Elandsrand Men’s Forum, ward committee, and councillors to join her cleaning campaign at the Elandsrand Community Hall.
“When I considered what to do for Mandela Day, I decided to choose something that would bring the community together, regardless of age or gender. I wanted something that would make us work together as a community and create awareness about how the residents can work together to serve our community. Hopefully this will serve as motivation for us to do it all together again,” she says.
“I think it should be Mandela Day every day.”
DA councillor, Eugene Van Der Schyff, who was part of the cleaning campaign, praised the young lady’s example. “She brought us here today and we have come to show that we want to be part of this. Let’s improve what we have. Young people are part of our community and they need to do something for the community that they can look back on and be proud of.”
