The NSRI rescued eight people from an airboat that capsized on the Crocodile River on the south side of the Hartbeespoort Dam on Friday, 27 November.
“The NSRI Hartbeespoort Dam launched a boat at 12:28 on Friday after receiving reports of an airboat that had capsized on the Crocodile River. Upon arrival on the scene we found two local crew members and six guests on the hull of the upturned airboat. They were not injured,” said Arhur Crew of the NSRI.
Later the same day at around 19:00, the NSRI rescued more people on the Hartbeespoort Dam when they were caught in a hailstorm after the boat’s battery failed. “Nine people from Pecanwood were on the open ski-boat. The boat and its occupants were towed to the NSRI Hartbeespoort Dam auxiliary rescue station,” Crewe said.
On Thursday, 26 November, around 19:30 the NSRI also had to assist four people stuck on a boat caught in dense hyacinth after the boat’s engine failed. They were towed to shore.
