The Absa branch in Brits has been closed after an employee tested positive for Covid-19 this week.
This was confirmed by Tshiwela Mhlantla, managing executive at Absa.
“Absa can confirm that an employee from our Brits branch has tested positive for COVID-19 and is now in self-isolation. We are providing the colleague with ongoing support,” she said.
“All necessary measures have been undertaken to ensure that those who were in contact with our colleague are tested and remain in precautionary self-quarantine, pending the outcome of medical tests, where appropriate. We are also in the process of engaging the provincial health authority in order to assist with their contact tracing efforts. We have a comprehensive support structure managed by a dedicated team of specialists. In accordance with our stringent health and safety measures, the matter has been reported to the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) and the branch has been closed for deep cleaning.”
She said consistent with the government’s health and safety protocols, Absa is committed to providing the highest level of support to all those impacted.
The branch is expected to reopen on 29 June 2020. Mhlantla said all ABSA branches and offices have been subjected to increased hygiene regiments, regular sanitising and social distancing protocols in an effort to curb the spread of the virus.
“We are closely monitoring the situation and will keep our customers and employees informed of any changes.”
